2017 AKRON EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT EITC PROGRAM

SERVICE DESCRIPTION:The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a tax benefit available to working families earning low to moderate incomes. Through this free tax preparation program certified volunteers will prepare 2016 income tax returns and determine eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and other tax benefits. Tax Year 2016 maximum credits are up to the following limits but may be less based on the household's specific tax circumstances:
- $6,218 with three or more qualifying children.
- $5,616 with two qualifying children.
- $3,400 with one qualifying child.
- $510 with no qualifying children.

INTAKE PROCEDURE:- Appointment line opens Thursday January 5th, 2017.
- Appointments required for assistance at 2017 Tax Preparation Locations. Call the Tax Preparation Appointment line for a required appointment. Appointments available beginning Tuesday January 24th, 2017.
- No appointment required for Super Saturday walk in events.
- Appointments for University of Akron - George W. Daverio School of Accountancy can be scheduled online at www.uakron.edu/cba/departments/accountancy/vita.dot. Accepts walk ins, but appointments are given first priority.
- Appointments for the Kent State - Swartz Center can be scheduled by calling 211 Cuyahoga County at 1-216-436-2000.

FEES:Free.

ELIGIBILITY:To receive tax preparation assistance, residents of Summit County must have an earned income and adjusted gross income (AGI) of $60,000 or less during the 2016 tax year.

To receive EITC, earned income and adjusted gross income (AGI) limits during the 2016 tax year are as follows:
- Families with three or more qualifying children who earned less than $48,340 (or less than $53,930 if married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $6,318.
- Families with two qualifying children who earned less than $45,007 (or less than $50,597 if married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $5,616.
- Families with one qualifying child who earned less than $39,617 (or less than $45,207 if married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $3,400.
- Individuals between the ages of 25 and 64 who do not have a qualifying child with an earned income of less than $15,010 (or less than $20,600 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit up to $510.

Investment income must be $3,450 or less for the year.

- February 25th from 9:00am to 3:00pm at ASCA West Exchange Street location at 670 West Exchange Street in Akron. Sponsored by Fifth Third Bank.

2017 LOCATIONS that accepts walk ins, but appointments are preferred and given first priority:
- The ASCA West Exchange Street location at 670 West Exchange Street in Akron. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday hours available 10:00am to 3:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Saturday hours available from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Appointments available Monday January 24th through Monday April 18th.
- The University of Akron - George W. Daverio School of Accountancy location at 259 South Broadway, Room 106 will serve clients on Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm except on Saturday April 1st (Spring Break). Appointments must be scheduled online for this site at www.uakron.edu/cba/departments/accountancy/vita.dot. Appointments available Saturday January 28th through Saturday April 15th.

2017 LOCATIONS by appointment only:
- The Kent State - Swartz Center located at 800 East Summit Street in Kent will be serving clients on Tuesdays from 9:00am to Noon beginning Tuesday February 7th through Tuesday April 11th. Also available Saturday February 4th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. By appointment only by calling 211 Cuyahoga County at 1-216-436-2000.
- The Barberton Parks and Recreation Active Adult Division location at 500 West Hopocan in Barberton will serve clients on Mondays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Appointments available beginning Monday February 6th through Monday April 3rd.
- Ohio Means Jobs location will be serving clients on Fridays from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Appointments available Friday January 27th through April 7th.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:Please bring the following documents to your appointment. Additional documentation may be requested when you schedule your appointment. Call for details.
- All W-2, 1099 forms and other tax documentation.
- If applicable, amounts for Schedule A and C must be totaled.
- SSN card for all persons to be included on tax return.
- Copy of last year's tax return if available.
- Information for all deductions and/or credits including any advanced credits received during the tax year.
